Mercedes-Benz USA has named company veteran Bernhard Glaser as vice president of marketing, effective immediately. He is responsible for marketing of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart brands in the United States. Glaser, 47, a native of Germany, had been Mercedes-Benz USA's general manager of product management since 2003. He fills the position previously held by Steve Cannon, who took over as CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA in January. Since joining Mercedes-Benz in Germany in 1992, Glaser has held a variety of product management positions. He came to the United States in 1998 as department manager for coupes and convertibles -- overseeing the volume, pricing and strategy for the SL, SLK, CL and CLK cars. He returned to Germany three years later to Stuttgart as executive assistant to the board member responsible for worldwide sales and marketing of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart brands and was later reassigned to the United States. "Bernie brings to this job an extensive amount of experience with the product, the brand, the culture, the dealers and our customers at a time when we are planning to take every aspect of our business to new levels in this market," Cannon said. Glaser holds a master's degree in business and engineering from the Karlsruhe University in Germany. You can reach Diana T. Kurylko at [email protected].
