North Carolina

On Sat. April 23rd we will visit the NC Transportation Museum. If you remember our popular Hendersonville, NC event a couple of years ago, that we called Planes, Trains and Automobiles think of this as being like that but in full size! The museum is located on 57 acres in Spencer, NC, about an hour North of Charlotte. Is easy to get to via major highways. Take Exit 79 off I-85 and follow Museum signs. Address is 411 S. Salisbury Ave. Spencer, NC 28159

The mission of the North Carolina Transportation Museum and Foundation at historic Spencer Shops is to preserve and interpret the history of transportation in North Carolina and to present this history in a manner that allows visitors to enjoy their experience as well as learn from it. Their website is

We will meet starting at 10AM.  Weather permitting we will do a Mercedes car show for the Museum in an exhibit area near the Museum entrance and the picnic area. So plan to wash and shine your car!  We will update you on that as we get closer to event. If it rains most Museum exhibits are indoors.

Once our cars are parked in the assigned exhibit area you will get your Train, Museum and tour tickets from your Club Representative. We'll go to the Station at 11 AM to take the 1/2 hour train ride which leaves at 11:30AM.  After the train ride you will have about 1-1/4 hours for lunch.

You have a lunch choice. You can pack your own lunch and eat in picnic area which is covered and seats 100 people.

There is also a small 42 seat Italian restaurant directly across the street from the Museum called Pinoccio's. They are not normally open for lunch. However, they have agreed to open just for our Club IF we have enough people. They will do a dinner grade lunch for about $15 pp.

Once we know if enough are interested we will put together the menu and advise you of same.

At approx. 1:30PM the Museum will put on a 1-1/2 hour guided tour for us of the Train, Auto, and Aviation Exhibits and more. There are 9 exhibit areas with appeal and photo opts for young and old. You will remember this day. But sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a camera.

You are then free to roam on your own or re-visit exhibits as long as you want until closing at 5PM.

Who knows, there might even be a door prize or two!

If anyone needs to stay over there is a Hampton Inn, Super 8, and Comfort Suites in Salisbury just 2 to 4 miles from the Museum.

Your cost for the Museum, guided tour and train ride is only $10.70 for Adults, $9.64 for Seniors/Active Military and $5.36 for Kids 3 -12 including the new NC sales tax.
